Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

The nominations for the 2021 Celebrate Teaching! Awards are now open. All nominations are now submitted through their respective online forms only.

The deadline for all submissions is March 15, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. Eastern (updated)

Student Choice Awards are given to faculty and instructors who contribute to teaching and learning within our campus community. Nominations take the form of a 280 character tweet submitted by students.

Teaching assistants provide invaluable support in the pursuit of student success at Ontario Tech. We encourage the nomination of teaching assistants who demonstrate superior commitment to their subject matter and their students through effective teaching.
Tim McTiernan Student Mentorship Award

Tim McTiernan Student Mentorship Award

Recognizes excellence in mentorship at the university. We encourage the nomination of individuals who consistently demonstrate a passion for supporting student success, an ability to inspire personal and professional growth and an outstanding commitment to promoting the values of the university.
Openness in Education Award

Openness in Education Award

Recognizes those in the Ontario Tech community who follow components of the CARE Open Education Framework by contributing, attributing, releasing, and empowering the use of open educational practices throughout our campuses and beyond.
Award for Excellence in Teaching

Award for Excellence in Teaching

Recognizes the contributions of our faculty members in creating a culture of teaching excellence and supporting student success on our campuses. Faculty members who demonstrate sustained and superior achievements in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching, as well as educational innovation, research, and leadership are eligible for nomination for this award.
Early Career Teaching Award

Early Career Teaching Award

Recognizes innovation and excellence in teaching by individuals who are in the early stages of their teaching career (5 years or less by December 31, 2021). We encourage the nomination of colleagues who consistently demonstrate a passion for teaching and engagement both in and out of the classroom.
Learning Reimagined Award

Learning Reimagined Award

Ontario Tech is dedicated to the use of innovative teaching practices to support student success. We encourage the nomination of colleagues who demonstrate unique and original solutions to specific problems of practice in their classes. Faculty members are also encouraged to self-nominate.
