Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Certificate in University Teaching

The Certificate in University Teaching program brings expertise and experiential learning to the development of teaching practices. Explore principles and theories of adult education and student-centred teaching with opportunities to apply the knowledge immediately in your own practice. 

Upon completion of the program, participants will:

  • Design and facilitate learning in a student-centred classroom
  • Develop learning outcomes, assessments, and course learning activities that enhance learning and engagement
  • Integrate technology to create and support the learning experience

Who Can Participate?


The Certificate in University Teaching program is open to instructors, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and teaching assistants from all Faculties at Ontario Tech.


Certificate Requirements


The Certificate in University Teaching is divided into five (5) asynchronous modules and five (5) synchronous online workshops. The first four (4) modules have an assessment component. There is a final assignment and teaching presentation as a culminating task.

Completion of the Certificate in University Teaching includes:

  • Completion of each of the five (5) modules
  • Completion of the five (5) module assessments with a minimum score of 70% in each
  • Attend three (3) mandatory TLC workshops
  • Attend two (2) elective TLC workshops
  • Complete the final assessment (Annotated Lesson Plan) with a minimum score of 70%
  • Complete the Teaching Presentation with a minimum score of 70%
