Teaching Squares

Teaching Squares Logo - celebrate teaching, build community

Teaching Squares is a program offered to faculty and part-time instructors at Ontario Tech University, Durham College and Ontario Power Generation who are interested in gaining new perspectives by attending a few colleagues’ classes as observers and welcoming colleagues to attend a few of their own classes. Returning participants are welcome.

Content

The Teaching Squares program begins with a brief kick-off meeting near the start of the semester wherein participants are placed in small groups (‘squares’) and meet to coordinate schedules for classroom visits. Participants visit each of the group member’s classes once. Group members coordinate an informal meeting time to reflect on the experience together, and individuals prepare their own reflections that are submitted to program facilitators. Lastly, all participants meet for a final wrap-up event to reflect on the experience as a whole.
