Assistive Technology
Assistive Technology (AT) refers to a wide range of tools, devices, software, and systems designed to support and enhance the abilities of individuals with disabilities. The Assistive Technologies available through the Accessibility HUB are aimed at supporting students facing challenges in speaking, typing, writing, recall, auditory processing, learning, mobility, visual perception, and a variety of other tasks. AT also includes assistive features of educational technologies we use at Ontario Tech. For example, accessibility feature built into tools like Google Workspace. Two common examples include Transcripts and Closed Captioning.
Closed captioning provides real-time or pre-recorded text of spoken content in videos, helping students who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as those who benefit from visual reinforcement of audio information.
Transcripts offer a written version of audio content, making it easier to review, study, and engage with course materials at your own pace.
