Student Learning Support Policies

Subject Specialist appointment guidelines
Peer Educator appointment guidelines

When you use any of the services provided by Student Learning Support, you agree to follow both these appointment guidelines and the Ontario Tech Student Conduct Policy. Our goal is to make our services respectful, supportive, and fair for everyone.

1. Be Respectful

  • Treat tutors, staff, and other students with kindness and courtesy.
  • Keep the space focused on learning — it’s not a place for socializing.
  • Respect others’ time and privacy. Don’t interrupt sessions or stay past your appointment.
  • Only contact tutors or subject specialists through approved channels (for example, the QuadC booking system) and during reasonable hours.
  • Don’t record online sessions (audio, video, screenshots) unless you have permission from those in the session.

2. Follow Booking Rules

  • Book appointments through the official QuadC booking system only.
  • Follow the maximum number of appointments per week rule.
  • Cancel or reschedule if you can’t attend. Please give as much notice as possible.
  • Appointments cancelled with less than 24-hours’ notice will count as a no-show/strike.
  • Understand that three no-shows/strikes in a single semester will result in your QuadC account being frozen until you complete the required form.
  • Don’t “drop in” without an appointment unless it’s clearly allowed.
  • Leave the study space or online room when your appointment ends so others can have their turn.

3. Act with Academic Integrity

  • Use support honestly — we’re here to help you learn, not to do your work for you.
  • Never ask or expect a tutor to complete, edit, or fix your assignment for submission.
  • Don’t share or upload work that isn’t yours.
  • Follow all academic integrity rules for your courses and programs.
  • Use feedback from tutors to improve your own understanding and skills.

4. Use Services Fairly

  • Be patient when demand is high; others deserve equal access to help.
  • Show up on time and be prepared for your session.
  • If you miss multiple appointments or don’t follow the booking guidelines, your booking privileges may be limited.
  • Ask questions and participate actively — the more engaged you are, the more you’ll learn.

5. If Something Goes Wrong

  • Small issues (like misunderstandings or missed appointments) are usually handled by SLS staff.
  • More serious issues (like disrespect, harassment, violence, repeated no-shows, or academic misconduct) may be reviewed under the Ontario Tech Student Conduct Policy.
  • You’ll always have a chance to share your side if a concern is raised.

6. We’re Here to Help

These guidelines are meant to keep our learning spaces safe, fair, and welcoming for everyone. If you ever have questions about what’s expected or want to report a concern, please talk to a member of the Student Learning Support team.
