Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

What's New With Canvas

The Teaching and Learning Centre team is here to keep you up to date on new features and enhancements in Canvas. We test each and every month to ensure that new options are ready to use and benefit out teaching and learning community. This page gives you a summary of new items we have installed.

New Quizzes

New Quizzes is an assessment engine that integrates with Canvas as an LTI tool, and replaces the original built-in Quizzes tool (now known as "Classic Quizzes"). Both New Quizzes and Classic Quizzes are currently available in Canvas. However, the Classic version of Quizzes will be phased out in 2024. If you want to get a head start, you can sign up to participate in the New Quizzes Pilot Program. Visit the New Quizzes Hub for more information.

Enhanced Gradebook Filter

The new Enhanced Gradebook Filter feature provides instructors with a more efficient and intuitive way to organize and sort their gradebooks. Instructors can select filter types to add to the filter. They can also remove filters, apply the filter, and give the filter a name for future use.

Submit Assignment on Behalf of Student

Instructors and TAs can now submit a file upload assignment on behalf of a student in the Gradebook. This support students in situations that need an alternative means of submission (e.g., via email) while still allowing instructors and TAs to grade and annotate the file via Canvas.

New Analytics

New Analytics allows instructors to track average course grades for student submissions using an interactive chart graph or table. Data is for viewing only and cannot directly be changed. Page views and participation metrics include an aggregate across all devices, including Canvas mobile apps. Check out the Canvas Resource Centre for more information.
