Teaching Dossiers
The teaching dossier is the place to present your narrative of your teaching! This is what you use to demonstrate your effectiveness in the learning environment and commitment to teaching, all supported by evidence.
To create a comprehensive teaching dossier, you'll need to focus on three areas:
- Approach to Teaching
- Teaching Responsibilities and Contributions
- Evidence Provided

Best Practices
- Start working on your dossier as soon as possible. It can take more time than expected to compile the information that is included in a teaching dossier.
- Keep a folder on your computer to save various artefacts related to your teaching practice. They can serve as reminders of past accomplishments, or could even be appended to your dossier.
- It may also be helpful to keep a running document of achievements and related activities in this folder, for your reference.
- Engage in professional development opportunities. They can help you to acquire the vocabulary to describe some of the things you are already doing in your teaching practice, as well as provide new insights.
- Past participants in the Certificate in University Teaching program, for example, have shared that this program gave them ideas for revising their teaching philosophy statements.
- Connect with a colleague who has already developed a teaching dossier to ask about strategies that worked well for them.
- Attend the workshops and training sessions provided by the Office of the Provost.
