The Teaching and Learning Centre offers a variety of programs, events, and training to instructors, staff, and students at Ontario Tech. We invite you to join us to develop your abilities and confidence as an educator, refine your instructional design skills, and connect with your colleagues and community.

All Programs

The TLC offers professional development certifications and training to members of the Ontario Tech community interested in enhancing their instructional skills.


Certificate in University Teaching (CUT)

  • The Certificate in University Teaching (CUT) program brings expertise and experiential learning to the development of teaching practices. It runs from September to April and is designed for instructors, postdoctoral fellows, graduate teaching assistants, and doctoral and master's students.

Facilitating Academic Support and Training (FAST)

  • The Facilitating Academic Support and Training (FAST) program is intended for staff members who design and deliver training sessions, workshops, and other programs, and are seeking to enhance their facilitation skills.

A community of practice (CoP) involves a group of people (community) with a shared concern, problem, or interest (domain) working together to fulfil individual and group goals (practice).


Indigenization and Decolonization CoP

  • Members of the Indigenization and Decolonization CoP generate ideas, seek feedback, and share resources and stories related to Indigenizing and decolonizing content, instructional approaches, and interactions.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) CoP

  • The Universal Design for Learning CoP explores guidelines for implementing UDL principles, inclusive instructional design, instructional multimedia design, and accessible instruction to reduce barriers in any learning environment.

Conference on University Teaching and Learning

  • Join your Ontario Tech community at our annual Spring conference to connect, converse, and celebrate instructional excellence and innovation at our institution.

Mentimeter Day @ Ontario Tech

  • Join us on Tuesday, June 24 for Menti Day at Ontario Tech! Collaborate with your colleagues and Mentimeter experts to explore the features and potential of this educational technology tool. Stay tuned for more details!

New to Ontario Tech Orientation

  • Each Summer, New To Ontario Tech orientation introduces new instructors and teaching assistants to teaching techniques and strategies, educational technology, the student experience, and more!

Open Education Events

  • Members of the Ontario Tech community are invited to attend events and programming hosted by the Open Education Lab throughout the year to learn about open education and how they can contribute to the movement on our campuses and beyond.

In the TLC's Incubator programs, participants can address questions or challenges in their roles through collaborative, indepth, and interactive explorations of topics of interest. 


Open Educational Resource (OER) Incubator

  • The Open Educational Resource (OER) Incubator is a five-week program that provides a collaborative space for interested participants to learn the basics of OER and open licensing, explore best practices for curating open materials, and begin creating an open resource.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Incubator

  • The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Incubator is a six-week program in which participants aim to improve learning and investigate problems of practice by implementing optimized teaching practices based on research and evidence.

The Teaching and Learning Centre facilitates a revolving series of workshops covering a wide variety of topics. The workshop schedule is updated each semester based on emerging topics and audience interests, so check back often!
