University Preparation Program (UPREP)
What is UPREP?
The Ontario Tech University Preparatory Program (UPREP) is a specialized summer transition program prepares you for the academic demands of the university.
UPREP is comprised of two mandatory modules (Module 1: UPREP Kickoff and Module 2: UPREP Writing) plus at additional module (Module 3: UPREP Math) for students in Business and IT, Health Sciences, and Science programs.
Who should attend UPREP?
This program allows students to upgrade their knowledge in key prerequisite areas prior to beginning an undergraduate degree program at Ontario Tech. You may use the knowledge and skills developed through this program to prepare you for success in undergraduate University studies.
Students with a conditional offer to Ontario Tech University that requires successful completion of the University Preparatory Program (UPREP) must successfully complete UPREP in order to enrol in Ontario Tech.
Students will be notified by the Office of the Registrar of any conditional offers that include completion of this program.

Depending on the academic program you applied to, UPREP is divided into two or three modules. All modules are delivered in a virtual, synchronous format.
All Students
All students in UPREP must take the following two modules:
- Module 1 UPREP Kickoff: Meet with various university members to discuss academic expectations, learning strategies, and learn about accessing various university resources and services.
- Module 2 UPREP Writing: Students build on the fundamentals of university-level academic writing.
Students in Business and IT, Health Sciences, and Science programs
Students who have a conditional offer of admission to programs in the Faculties of Business and IT, Health Sciences, or Science must also complete the following module, for a total of three modules:
- Module 3 UPREP Math: Students who have math in their first year program will build upon their foundational math skills to set the stage for success in first-year mathematics. Using diagnostic tests, group activities, and guided practice, they will explore different aspects of math.
Modules 2 and 3 follow a 2-hour lecture, 0.5 hour break, and 1-hour guided practice format. Guided practice, supported by Subject Specialists from the Teaching and Learning Centre, encourage the application of newly learned theory into math and writing practice.
All Students
All students in UPREP must take the following two modules:
- Module 1 UPREP Kickoff: July 2 and July 3, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
- Module 2 UPREP Writing: Wednesdays, July 9 until August 20, 2025, from 9:00 a.m.until 12:30 p.m.**
Students in Business and IT, Health Sciences, and Science programs
Students who have a conditional offer of admission to programs in the Faculties of Business and IT, Health Sciences, or Science must also complete the following module, for a total of three modules:
- Module 3 UPREP Math: Tuesdays, July 8 until August 19, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.**
**Alternative days may be added if Modules are oversubscribed. Please watch your email for details.
Completion of the UPREP program requires:
- Successful completion of all required modules.
- Learners must complete all required modules with a passing grade. A 70% or higher final grade is considered a pass for all required modules.
- Attendance is very important and mandatory for the successful completion of the UPREP program.
Learners with a conditional offer to the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities or the Faculty of Education that requires them to complete the University Preparatory Program must successfully complete Module 1: UPREP Kickoff and Module 2: UPREP Writing only. All other learners must complete Modules 1, 2, and 3.
- Deadline for $600 CDN non-refundable deposit – Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
- Deadline for remaining program fees – Monday, July 14, 2025.
- Last day to withdraw from the program and receive a partial refund – Monday July 14, 2025 at 4 p.m. EST.

Please note that a $600 CDN non-refundable deposit is due Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Remaining program fees are due Monday, July 14, 2025.
UPREP is delivered in an online, synchronous format. This means you will be actively participating in the program remotely. Because of this, there are specific technology requirements you need to successfully attend and participate in the program.
- Computer/device with stable internet or data access
- Minimum computer requirements for each of the Faculties can be found on the Information Technology Services website. If purchasing a computer, it is strongly recommended that those completing the University Preparatory Program as a part of a conditional offer to a program at Ontario Tech University follow the computer requirements for the Faculty/program their conditional offer is for.
- Stable internet or data connection
- Microphone
- Webcam
- Audio device (examples: speakers, headphones/earbuds, headset)
- Additional software
- A word processor (e.g, Microsoft Word or Google Docs).
- Some modules in this program may require additional software. These will be listed in each module syllabus. Cost and procurement of additional required software is the learner's responsibility.
Academic Integrity
Learners are expected to adhere to the conduct standards of Ontario Tech University. Information regarding student conduct can be found in the Student Conduct Policy in the University’s Policy Library.
Withdrawal from UPREP
2025 Withdrawal deadline: Last day to withdraw from the program and receive a partial refund – Monday July 14, 2025 at 4 p.m. EST.
Withdrawal from the University Preparatory Program will void any conditional offer to Ontario Tech University requiring successful completion of this program.
Learners who wish to drop the program must send their withdrawal request to teachingandlearning@ontariotechu.ca on or before the withdrawal deadline (above). Withdrawal requests submitted before the withdrawal deadline are subject to a full refund of program fees with the exception of the non-refundable deposit.
Successful module and program completion
A 70% or higher final grade is considered a pass for all required modules. All final grades of 70% or higher will be recorded as PAS, indicating a "passing grade". All final grades lower than 70% will be recorded as FAL, indicating a "failing grade".
For successful completion of the University Preparatory Program, learners must complete all required modules with a passing grade.
*Note: Additional conditions may be required for the successful completion of individual modules. These conditions will be noted in the module syllabus and must be met for the successful completion of the module and, therefore, the program.
Other
Those completing the University Preparatory Program are subject the policies of Ontario Tech University and Continuous Learning. Ontario Tech policies can be found in the Policy library. Those completing the University Preparatory Program are expected to adhere to the General and Open enrolment regulations.
